About the Brewery...

It is said that beer has been brewed in Ringwood for centuries, ever since medieval man first mixed the crystal waters of the River Avon with the malted barley from the fertile fields of Hampshire!  We can't confirm or deny that, but we do know that Ringwood was started in 1978 on the back of the revival of cask beer championed by CAMRA. Back then the founder, Peter Austin, could never have imagined that his small undertaking would grow to become the largest independent cask brewer in Hampshire. Peter retired in 1988 and the reins were passed to David Welsh who has never lost sight of his tutor’s vision: “Look after the beer and everything else will look after itself!”

About the Beer...

Fortyniner is primarily named because of its 4.9% alcohol.  A blend of Challenger, Goldings and Progress hops, this golden-coloured premium bitter is a delight to behold.  A light, fresh hoppy bouquet first, then a full, rounded palate with strong hop balance, a deep bittersweet finish, and some subtle spicy overtones.  Since its first silver medal at the 1996 International Beer Competition in Stoke on Trent, the Fortyniner has won over many loyal fans.  Enjoy!
